“For Darren Woodhead, a sheet of paper is a pool of light on which paints dance”,

Julian Spalding, Former Director of Glasgow Museums and Art Galleries

The SOC is delighted to host a talk and demonstration by acclaimed artist and watercolourist, Darren Woodhead (Swarovski / Birdwatch magazine Artist of the Year 2009) at Waterston House, SOC Headquarters.

Join us on this winter’s evening to watch Darren in action whilst hearing of the inspirations and experiences which helped shape his upcoming exhibition of work at Waterston House (on show Saturday 18 November 2017- Wednesday 10 January 2018). The talk will provide an insight into Darren’s signature working methods: with the outdoors for a studio, all of his works are painted entirely in the field, purely in watercolours and direct in brush. Find out how this immediacy, freshness and spontaneity excites him. “By its very nature watercolour is a fragile medium that takes on the surroundings in which it was painted, contributing to a painting much more than just a sense of colour”.
