SOC Membership
Membership of the SOC is open to everyone with an interest in birds in Scotland. As a member you will receive the Club's publications and be able to attend indoor and field meetings.
Members of the Club are 'allocated' to a branch based on their home address (there is no extra fee to join a branch), but all members are free to participate in the any of the branches' activities.
Annual membership subscription rates are as follows:
| Category | Rate |
| Adult (aged 18 or over) | £25 |
| Family (two adults and all juniors living at the same address) | £35 |
| Junior/Student (aged 17 or under, or student aged 18-24 and in full-time education) | £10 |
| Concession - Pensioner (of an age to draw the State Retirement Pension) or Unwaged (and claiming benefit) | £16 |
| Joint Concession (two members entitled to concession and living at the same address) | £21 |
| Life | £500 |
| Life Family | £700 |
| Library/Institution | £40 |
NB: A £10 supplement is payable by overseas members to cover the additional costs of postage.
SOC subscriptions are due annually on 1st September. New applications received between 2nd September and 30th April will be backdated to the previous 1st September (to include all membership material issued from September). New members joining between 1st May and 31st August will have their first year subscription extended until September in the following year.
All subscriptions may be paid by Direct Debit and/or Gift Aid (formerly Deed of Covenant) if desired. You are encouraged to pay by Direct Debit as this saves the Club time and money. If you are a UK tax payer, signing a Gift Aid declaration allows the SOC to reclaim tax (28p for every £1) paid on your subscription fee, making your contribution to the club go even further, without costing you a thing.
