The following Tuesdays at 7.30pm:
10 Feb 2015 ”Spanish Steppes: Birds of the Laguna de Gallocanta”, with Jeremy Brock
Laguna de Gallocanta is Europe’s largest salt lake, 1000m above sea level. Jeremy will describe the birds of the lake and the surrounding habitats (farmland, steppe, hills), address conservation issues and provide advice on how and when is best to visit.
Jeremy Brock has been birdwatching since the 1950′s and has birdwatched regularly in Spain since the mid-70′s. A graduate from the University of Cambridge, Jeremy retired in 2001 as lecturer and research scientist in immunology at Glasgow University. He co-authored the first ‘Where to Watch Birds in Britain and Europe’ with the late John Gooders, and currently sits on the Stewartry local branch Committee.
10 Mar 2015 “Wildlife on a Weir”, with Edmund Fellowes
Edmund will be taking a look at the wildlife in Dumfries, concentrating on the weir on the river Nith in the middle of the town, and in particular at the birds found there during the year. This is not a scientific study, Edmund watches birds just for fun, and assures us there isn’t a graph in sight!
Edmund is an amateur birder and photographer and has lived in Dumfries for over 40 years. As well as being an SOC member, he is also involved with Dumfries Camera club.
