Laurie Campbell – Photographing birds: more than just the species

We are delighted to announce that renowned wildlife photographer Laurie Campbell will be joining us for what promises to be an evening of visual treats. Settle in for the evening and enjoy a captivating journey through some of Laurie’s breath-taking images and the fascinating stories behind them.

About the talk:

2025 marks the fortieth anniversary of the start of Laurie's career as a professional nature photographer. Birds have featured prominently throughout, from the Mute Swans and Grey Herons which caught his imagination as a child (and still do to this day), to the majestic Golden Eagle. Whatever the subject, Laurie will reveal how factors such as weather, lighting and context allow him to capture those species which might otherwise be considered common, in new and intriguing ways.

About our speaker:

With a life-long interest in the natural world and graduating with a degree in photography at Napier University, Laurie Campbell has been a freelance professional nature photographer, dedicated to documenting Scotland’s natural history, for almost fifty years. His imagery is published across a range of media internationally and is widely recognised for its distinctive style. Despite having produced and illustrated numerous books and winning competition awards, his most treasured accolade to date was to be voted for inclusion in Highland Naturalists, an exhibition featuring thirty people from the past 300 years whose work has significantly contributed to the understanding and enjoyment of the natural history in the Scottish Highlands. Similarly, in 2014 he was honoured with a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' in the RSPB Nature of Scotland Awards in recognition of the lasting contribution his photography has made to conservation in Scotland.
