This walk is an opportunity to learn the basics of bird identification and birdwatching is aimed at beginners and those wishing to improve. We will having a close look at the common species present around Waterston House and waders, wildfowl and gulls at Kilspindie Bay.
The group number is restricted in order to facilitate social distancing, in line with Scottish Government guidance. More information on our Covid-19 measures in place to ensure the safety of participants will be provided in the meeting details issued in advance of the walk.
The walks will last around two – three hours and will be lead by Scott Paterson, our guided walks organiser. The walk will be relaxed and informal with discussion and questions encouraged and will aim to provide an enjoyable introduction to birds, bird identification and birdwatching.
Please ensure that you come prepared for all weathers and have warm, waterproof clothing. You will also need sturdy walking boots or shoes, or Wellingtons although we will not be doing any serious hiking, but will be walking on paths which may be rough and/or muddy. If you have binoculars, please bring them, if you do not have any please let Scott know and we will arrange a loan pair.
Any personal details you provide when booking will be stored securely by the SOC and shared only with the walks organiser, Scott Paterson, for the purpose of administering your participation on the course.
SOC reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of its scheduled guided walks due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient bookings. Where participants are unable to join a re-scheduled walk, a full refund will be given. In the event that a participant cancels their booking, we regret that we will only be able to issue a refund (minus £1.50 admin fee) if we are able to fill the place.
Depending on Government guidance nearer the time regarding outdoor gatherings for educational purposes, we may need to further restrict the number of participants on the walk or cancel. In the event of this, we will contact individuals regarding the transfer of bookings to an alternative date or to organise a refund, as required.
