Autumn is here and SOC's guided walks are now in full swing, taking advantage of the wealth of bird life along the coast and around lochs and woodlands.
A new addition to the walks programme, our 2-3 hour Wetland Bird Identification in the City walk, takes place at Duddingston Loch, Edinburgh.
Duddingston Loch is an SWT reserve and the only example of a natural freshwater loch in the City of Edinburgh. It is an important site for breeding and wintering wildfowl and includes areas of mixed woodland, scrub, grassland and reedbeds.
The pace will be relaxed with no serious hiking planned though some paths may be rough and/or muddy so we advise sturdy footwear. It is not necessary to own a pair of binoculars as we have a supply of optical equipment available for participants to borrow. The walks are very informal and group numbers kept small to facilitate an enjoyable introduction to birds and bird watching.
Scott Paterson, who leads the walks, is county bird recorder for the Perth & Kinross region and is an accomplished ornithologist with many years of experience as a professional bird ID skills trainer.
To book a place please call the SOC office on 01875 871330 to make your payment by credit or debit card. The cost is £12 (£10 SOC members).
