Donald Watson was a seminal figure in the wildlife art and ornithological world from the late 1950s onwards. Since his death in 2005, his works have continued to be much admired and SOC are delighted to hold a number of his paintings at Waterston House, Club Headquarters, some of which were featured in a recent exhibition of Donald’s work at the centre.

Until now, there hasn’t been a book assessing Donald’s status and standing in the world of bird art and ornithology. However, this April will see the launch of Donald Watson - Bird Artist and Writer - a celebration of Donald as one of Britain's finest bird artists and field ornithologists. Edited by Roger Crofts and written by his family and acknowledged experts in their field who knew Donald and his outstanding contributions, the book covers all aspects of his life from childhood through to his long residence in St John's Town of Dalry in Galloway.

We're delighted to be hosting the book launch at Headquarters: join the authors at 2pm on Saturday 26 April where signed copies will be available for purchase at £17.99. Cards and posters of Donald's work will also be available, and refreshments will be provided.
