The SOC is excited to present a free online conference in collaboration with the Scottish Birds Records Committee (SBRC), a sub-committee of SOC Council that was set up in 1984 to ensure that all unusual Scottish records are fully assessed prior to being accepted for publication.

The conference programme, put together by SBRC, will focus on rarities and rare bird recording, with topics such as:

  • revelations from more than a million records collected over 75 years on Fair Isle
  • climate change and the future of vagrancy
  • trends in some rarer Scottish birds
  • the Challenger pelagics
  • Scotland’s under-watched frontiers

The conference, to be held across the evenings of February 24th to 26th, will be free to join, with three talks in each session. Come along and forget the dark, wintery February nights with us while we talk about one of the most exciting aspects of birding in Scotland and beyond!

Programme and booking

The full programme and a link to the booking form will be available here w/c 15 December. In the meantime, you may wish to sign up to our mailing list and select Other (conferences, publications, vacancies etc.), which will enable us to notify you when bookings go live.
