The SOC is pleased to present an exhibition showcasing the work of accomplished wildlife artists Liz Myhill and Louise Pallister, both renowned for their exquisite depictions of birds. This exhibition highlights species commonly found within coastal landscapes.

Liz Myhill RSW SWLA is a Scottish artist whose work is rooted in direct observation from nature. Her creative process involves walking, watching, and recording her experiences in the rugged terrain of her native Isle of Skye and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. This immersion enables her to forge a connection with her subject, capturing a strong sense of place alongside the wildlife she encounters. Indeed, her artworks which include painting and printmaking, depict evocative scenes of craggy rocks with resting razorbills and curlews wading through the ebbing tide.

Louise is a fine artist and printmaker whose ‘Birds in Common’ series explores migratory birds familiar to the North Sea coasts of Britain and Europe. Inspired by nautical charts used by mariners to navigate, she reflects on how birds, in contrast, have no need of such maps, rather using the sun and stars to help guide them over vast distances. Her intricate drawings, created with conté and graphite on drafting film, include depictions of species such as the oystercatcher, gannet, and curlew. The exhibition also features some of Louise’s drypoint print making work.
