Join us at SOC headquarters in Aberlady for an afternoon of travel stories and art with renowned wildlife artist Darren Rees.

Darren has been painting wildlife for nearly 40 years and is one of the UK's most highly respected nature and wildlife artists. His work as an artist has taken him around the world working with the Artists for Nature Foundation and WWF projects in Holland, Poland, Peru and Ecuador, as well as leading wildlife tours to Europe, Africa, the Americas and the Arctic. Darren won the Artist in Residency in Antarctica post organized by the Royal Navy and the Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute. Here he spent five weeks in the far south aboard the ice-breaker HMS Protector. As you can imagine Darren has many stories to share about his travels and the wildlife encountered along the way. All beautifully documented in his sketchbooks and paintings, Darren will share with you a selection of his favourite pieces and the real-life encounters that inspired them.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artist and enjoy a fun afternoon hearing about life as a wildlife artist, working out in the field in multiple countries and climates. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and to also enjoy our current exhibition, Watercolor and Willow, where a selection of Darren’s paintings are on show, alongside watercolour artist Jonathan Pomroy and basket weaver Katie Warner.
