The SOC is delighted to offer both members and non-members the opportunity to borrow optical and acoustic monitoring equipment through its Optics Loan Scheme. This is available via George Waterston Library, located at our headquarters at Waterston House in Aberlady, East Lothian.

The scheme includes binoculars, telescopes, tripods and AudioMoths, and aims to provide a way to make birding more accessible and enjoyable for all; from beginner birders borrowing their first pair of binoculars, to those just curious about trying out different kit. The hire is free, however a small donation would be appreciated.

In addition, we always welcome donations of equipment to the Optics Loan Scheme. If you have any unwanted optics e.g. binoculars, telescopes or tripods you'd like to contribute, these can be brought in or sent to Waterston House (Tues-Sun 10:00-16:30 hrs). Alternatively, optics donations can be handed over at any of our upcoming conferences.
